The Grandeur of the Seas, a Vision-class cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International, made its first call at the port of Progreso, Yucatan on July 17th, marking the first of 11 scheduled visits this year. On this inaugural call, the Grandeur of the Seas brought 2,349 passengers and a crew of 789, totaling 3,138 visitors who had the opportunity to enjoy the attractions that Puerto Progreso and the state of Yucatan offer to international cruise tourism. The ship arrived around 7 a.m., coming from Tampa, Florida, and departed Progreso at 4:00 p.m. heading to Cozumel, Quintana Roo to continue its itinerary. In service since 1996, the Grandeur of the Seas offers its passengers a wide range of high-quality facilities and services, including a spa, jacuzzis, pools, a running track, a casino, themed bars, a theater, restaurants, and a grand dining room. Since 2021, its homeport has been Bridgetown, Barbados, from where it operates Caribbean voyages. Currently, this cruise ship is on a 5-day itinerary that starts and ends in Tampa, Florida, with calls in Progreso and Cozumel. To commemorate this historic arrival, a traditional plaque exchange ceremony was held aboard the cruise ship, attended by the ship's captain, Carl Graucob, and Raul Paz Noriega, Technical Secretary of the Secretariat of Tourism Development, representing the Government of the State of Yucatan and the Secretary Michelle Fridman Hirsch. They were joined by Roger Gomez Ortegon, Interim Mayor of Progreso; Carlos Ortiz Piñeira, representing Rear Admiral Victor Manuel Fernandez Carrasco, General Director of ASIPONA Progreso; and Rodolfo Barron, Director of Cruise Operations, along with Carlos Lopez, Operations Manager, and Roberto Arjona, SSA Marine México’s Agency Chief. With this arrival, SSA Marine Mexico reaffirms its commitment to excellence in hosting world-class cruise ships, strengthening maritime tourism in the region.
