SSA Marine México welcomes Celebrity Xcel cruise ship for the first time in Cozumel

SSA Marine México’s International Cruise Terminal will be the privileged destination in Cozumel for the “Celebrity Xcel,” with a capacity for 3,260 guests, during its thirteen scheduled calls and inaugural season. On November 11, the new “Edge” class cruise ship Celebrity Xcel, owned by Celebrity Cruises, arrived in Cozumel on its first inaugural voyage to Mexico. It docked at the International Cruise Terminal, operated by SSA Marine México in Cozumel for the past 30 years. Representing SSA Marine México were Rodolfo Barron, Cruise Operations Director, and Roberto Arjona, Head of Shipping Agency Operations. From Celebrity Cruises, attendees included Ari Adler, President of Royal Caribbean México, and Laura Hodges, CEO of Celebrity Cruises, who expressed their great satisfaction with this inaugural call at the port of Cozumel. Also in attendance was Kyriakos Matragkas (Kirk), Captain of the Celebrity Xcel, who received a commemorative welcome plaque from Mara Lezama, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo. He highlighted the excellent conditions of SSA’s 460-meter cruise pier, as well as the effective coordination between port authorities and SSA Marine México’s terminal in Cozumel. The world-class facilities of SSA Marine México welcomed the new cruise ship, which measures 327 meters in length, thirty-nine meters in maximum beam, with 1,646 staterooms and a total capacity of 4,238 passengers and crew. With a strong commitment to environmental care, the Celebrity Xcel was designed with state-of-the-art technologies that minimize its carbon footprint and improve resource efficiency, paving the way toward sustainability. The Celebrity Xcel set sailing at 8:00 p.m., continuing its journey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, leaving behind the festive spirit of passengers and crew who, in just one day, enjoyed the unique beauty of the island of Cozumel.
